Communication V/S Communion

One of the most fundamental, innovations of mankind in the evolution of his cultural identity is communication. As cave man, started of with sign, gestures, facial expressions, drawings and got matured to a stage of spoken words and then written text. It is definitely a progress, no doubt about it. But there is a flip side to the coin.

What is the basic sound from which the whole existence came out. As pointed out by the indian scriptures, it is the three basic sounds AA-UU-MM. Strating from there, we have invented the most complex tool called language along with script. All these are the external forms of communication that is to be done with the others, other than yourself. But is this external communication required with yourself also? For example, how does all the individual internal parts of your body work in unison to maintain an effortless existence without any such communication tools. It is because, they do not communicate with each other. They are in communion with each other, meaning they exist as one and not as many together. We all walk, run, dance freely because our hands and legs and brain are in communion. Where as, the most sophisticated and advanced humanoid robots are barely learning to walk now because a robots arms and legs only communicate with each other. These are great examples to show the power of communion in comparison to communication.

We all know to communicate with each other through language. But have you ever been in communion with anything or anyone. You might have experienced it in your first date or when you are newly married. That experience made you to float in air. But after a while when you are out of it, you are the same old heavy person. But is it possible to be in communion all the time forever? Yes, unknowingly we all are in communion with God all the time. That is why he is all knowing. But we do not feel it always because, he is so subtle for us to catch by our minds. A spiritual seeker is exactly in search of this experience of being in communion. So for a seeker Guru comes to the rescue. He has the ability to make the seeker experience communion to transform and liberate. And more over, Guru is holding the state of communion with us at the subtle level and also material to the gross form as a human being. This combination is powerful. That is why in Indian context, a Guru’s role is unmatched. This is why Guru purnima is celebrated here.

So, one who has experienced Guru in anyone would just surrender with such a force that nothing else of the world can depart him from the Guru. A Guru would always know you from inside from moment to moment at every stage of your progress. You never have to use any communication tools like language or script to make him understand. He just know you.
